If you’ve ever been to a wedding, you’ve probably heard these words: “Where is Uncle?”

As a wedding photographer, I hear some version of this at almost every wedding. The family photographs start. Everyone is ready my camera is ready. The couple is standing there waiting for the picture to be taken.

And then… Someone is missing.

“Has anyone seen Uncle?”

“He was at the bar.”

“No, I saw him outside.”

“I think he went to the bathroom.”

“Maybe he’s with Auntie.”

And suddenly, what was supposed to be a five-minute family photo session has turned into a 15-minute investigation. 😂 This is why I recommend having a family photograph list ready before the wedding. Even better, have someone from the family who knows everyone and can help round people up.

I might know that I need “Bride’s parents, groom’s parents and siblings”… But I don’t necessarily know that “Uncle John” is actually John’s nickname and his real name is something completely different. 😂

Having a list means we know exactly which photographs you want, and having a family members help means we can find the right people quickly without stressing the bride and groom.

It also means I’m not spending half of your wedding reception playing: “Where Is Uncle?”

The goal is simple, get the important family photographs done efficiently, then get everyone back to celebrating. I promise you ,Uncle doesn’t want to miss the party either.
