After photographing so many weddings from start to finish, there isn’t much I haven’t seen. Different venues, cultures, timelines, family dynamics and different ways of doing things. By seeing so many weddings, us as the photographers can often see what’s coming before it happens.

We know that the “quick family photos” probably won’t take five minutes.

We know someone is going to disappear just when we need them. We know that if you don’t leave enough time between getting ready and the ceremony, the whole day can start feeling rushed and we know that sometimes, a small change to the timeline can make the rest of the day run so much more smoothly.

That’s why, as your photographer, I will offer you advice. Not because I want to control your wedding nor because I think my way is the only way.

It’s because I’ve seen it before. My job isn’t to direct your entire wedding. It’s to capture it and if I see something that could make your day easier, smoother or less stressful, I’m going to tell you. Sometimes that means stepping in and helping where I can, and sometimes it means doing absolutely nothing and letting the moment happen.

The important thing is knowing the difference. Your wedding should still feel like your wedding. My experience is simply there to help you enjoy it a little more. If your photographer gives you advice, don’t think they’re trying to take over, and if you disagree with the advice they give you then that is totally okay, as we have said it is still YOUR wedding. They might just have seen this exact situation play out at another wedding and they’re want to help you avoid the same problem.

At the end of the day, I’m not there to be the director of your wedding.

I’m there to make sure that while you’re busy living it, I’m there to capture it.
